The Smart BMS CL 12-100 is Victron's battery management unit for its LiFePO4 Smart Batteries, built around a 12 V battery and a 12 V alternator. The alternator input is current limited, with a 100 A maximum charge current and a 125 A fuse rating. A pre-alarm contact gives a warning ahead of a disconnect. The case is rated IP65 and the unit works from -40 to 60 °C.
Our take
The 100 A cap on the alternator port of the Smart BMS CL 12-100 means the alternator can be any size, because the BMS limits what reaches the Smart Lithium battery. That is also the ceiling for charging from the engine, and the unit is made for 12 V only.
