The Victron Pre-charge Cable is a lead for charging up the internal capacitors of an inverter, an inverter/charger or an MPPT through its DC terminals before the battery is connected. The point is to avoid arcing when the battery is finally hooked up, since the capacitors are already charged. Victron lists it under part number ASS070400100.
Our take
Pre-charging an inverter's capacitors through the DC terminals is the job here, and the payoff is a battery connection that does not arc at the connection point. It applies to inverters, inverter/charger units and MPPTs alike.
From our buying guide
On a boat subpart I covers, an electrical component must not ignite fuel vapor around it unless it is isolated from gasoline fuel sources. Ignition protection is the maker's statement.
Check before you buy:
- 33 CFR 183 subpart I applies to boats that have a gasoline engine, except an outboard, so a gasoline generator counts.
- On a boat subpart I covers, each ungrounded output conductor from a battery needs a manually reset, trip-free circuit breaker or fuse within 72 inches of the battery.
