The PhoenixCharger 24/16 (2+1) is a mains-powered charger for 24 V batteries. It has two full-rated outputs for house batteries, nominally 16 A, plus a 4 A output for a starter battery, and it follows an adaptive 4-stage charge algorithm. It accepts AC input from 90 to 265 V and includes a temperature sensor. The recommended battery capacity is 100 to 200 Ah. It guards against reverse battery polarity, a shorted output, overheating and high battery voltage.
Our take
A 16 A house output and a recommended 100 to 200 Ah battery range tell you the size of bank this charger is meant to fill, and the extra 4 A starter output looks after a separate engine battery. Changing its settings needs an MK2-USB interface and RJ45 cable that are not included.
From our buying guide
NMMA says charging sources must meet the charging profile the battery maker recommends. A charger's presets are its own maker's, not the battery's, so set it from the battery maker's figures.
Check before you buy:
- It can follow your battery's profile, since not every charger can follow a lithium maker's.
- Its output suits your bank. ProMariner recommends about 10 percent of the batteries' total amp-hour capacity, with one charger output for each battery.
- It suits how you'll use it, since ProMariner says its waterproof chargers are for batteries not in use while charging.
