The Victron PhoenixCharger 12/50 (2+1) is a 12 V battery charger with three outputs. The house side delivers a nominal 50 A and a further output gives 4 A for a starter battery. It uses an adaptive 4-stage charge routine with a 14.4 V absorption voltage, and Victron recommends it for capacities of 200 to 800 Ah. A temperature sensor is included. Settings are changed over a data port, which needs an RJ45 cable and an MK2-USB interface that are not supplied.
Our take
A nominal 50 A house output with a recommended range of 200 to 800 Ah covers a wide spread of 12 V bank sizes from one unit. Adjusting its settings needs an MK2-USB interface and RJ45 cable that are not included.
From our buying guide
NMMA says charging sources must meet the charging profile the battery maker recommends. A charger's presets are its own maker's, not the battery's, so set it from the battery maker's figures.
Check before you buy:
- It can follow your battery's profile, since not every charger can follow a lithium maker's.
- Its output suits your bank. ProMariner recommends about 10 percent of the batteries' total amp-hour capacity, with one charger output for each battery.
- It suits how you'll use it, since ProMariner says its waterproof chargers are for batteries not in use while charging.
