Victron's Phoenix Charger Control is a remote panel for a charger. LEDs show the charger status, and you can follow the charge process from the panel. It also lets you cap the output current, which reduces what is pulled from the AC supply, and you can alter the battery charging parameters from it. LED brightness drops automatically at night. A standard UTP cable links it to the charger.
Our take
The output current adjustment is the useful feature: turning the charger's output down also lowers the power it draws from the AC supply. Victron points to limited shore power or small gensets as where that is particularly useful.
From our buying guide
BCI defines a battery management system as an electronic system that monitors a battery's condition, performance and health. Some lithium batteries have one built in and some need an external unit.
Check before you buy:
- A voltage reading means little until the battery has rested, and each maker sets its own rest and table.
- An amp-hour figure needs its rate, since BCI says rated capacity is specified at a particular discharge rate, temperature and cutoff voltage.
