The Orion XS 1400 is a configurable DC-DC charger for dual battery systems fed by an intelligent alternator. It can be set up as 12 to 12V, 12 to 24V, 24 to 12V or 24 to 24V, with input voltage from 9 to 35V DC. Rated output is 50A for 12 to 12V, 24 to 12V and 24 to 24V, and 25A for 12 to 24V. It has 8 battery preset modes, engine shutdown detection, an IP65 rating for dust and water, and units can be paralleled to raise output current.
Our take
The engine shutdown detection means the charger only pulls power while the engine runs, so it won't drain the starter battery at rest. The 12 to 24V step-up is rated at half the 50A of the other setups, so size it with that in mind.

NMMA says charging sources must meet the charging profile the battery maker recommends. A charger's presets are its own maker's, not the battery's, so set it from the battery maker's figures.
Check before you buy:
- It can follow your battery's profile, since not every charger can follow a lithium maker's.
- Its output suits your bank. ProMariner recommends about 10 percent of the batteries' total amp-hour capacity, with one charger output for each battery.
- It suits how you'll use it, since ProMariner says its waterproof chargers are for batteries not in use while charging.
