A 120 V inverter/charger from Victron, this MultiPlus-II runs from a 48 V battery bank and delivers 4,000 W continuously at 25°C, with a peak rating of 9,000 W and 5,000 VA on nonlinear loads. The built-in charger can supply up to 70 A at 25°C ambient. Its transfer switch is rated 95 A. Output is 120 VAC, adjustable, and units can be run in parallel for more capacity.
Our take
Rated 4,000 W continuous at 25°C but only 3,000 W at 65°C, this unit gives up a quarter of its output as ambient temperature climbs, so size the load for the hot case. The 9,000 W figure is a peak rating, not a continuous one.
From our buying guide
On a boat subpart I covers, an electrical component must not ignite fuel vapor around it unless it is isolated from gasoline fuel sources. Ignition protection is the maker's statement.
Check before you buy:
- It can follow your battery's profile, since not every charger can follow a lithium maker's.
- On a boat subpart I covers, each ungrounded output conductor from a battery needs a manually reset, trip-free circuit breaker or fuse within 72 inches of the battery.
