The Lynx Smart BMS 500 NG (M10) is a battery management system for Victron Lithium NG batteries. It has a 500 A continuous rating with a 600 A peak for 5 minutes, and it supports 12V, 24V or 48V systems. A built-in contactor allows remote-controlled main switching, a pre-alarm signal comes ahead of a low cell voltage shutdown, and setup is over Bluetooth through the VictronConnect app. Standby draw is approximately 2.6W, and there is no reverse polarity protection.

Our take

With a 500 A continuous rating and a 600 A five-minute peak, the Lynx Smart BMS 500 NG sets the current its built-in contactor can carry. It has no reverse polarity protection, so the battery cables have to be connected correctly the first time.

From our buying guide

BCI defines a battery management system as an electronic system that monitors a battery's condition, performance and health. Some lithium batteries have one built in and some need an external unit.

Check before you buy:

  • Battle Born warns that a BMS shutdown leaves the vessel without power, and that one during alternator charging can severely damage the alternator.
  • There is no one low-temperature limit for charging lithium, so take it from the manual for the battery you have.
