The Victron GlobalLink 530 is a cellular communication unit for sending a boat's power data off the vessel. It uses standard 4G LTE and also supports 2G as a fallback where available, and it comes with a prepaid data SIM that covers 5 years of connectivity. It has two isolated VE.Direct ports, two digital inputs that count pulses, and a relay that can be controlled remotely. Up to 10 additional Smart devices can join over Bluetooth, and it runs from 8 to 70 VDC.
Our take
The prepaid SIM covers 5 years of connectivity, so the VE.Direct devices on a boat can report remotely without a separate data contract in that time. The enclosure is rated only IP20, so mount it somewhere sheltered.
From our buying guide
BCI defines a battery management system as an electronic system that monitors a battery's condition, performance and health. Some lithium batteries have one built in and some need an external unit.
Check before you buy:
- A voltage reading means little until the battery has rested, and each maker sets its own rest and table.
- An amp-hour figure needs its rate, since BCI says rated capacity is specified at a particular discharge rate, temperature and cutoff voltage.
