This is the SmartSolar Pluggable Display, a small LCD screen that adds a readout to a compatible Victron MPPT solar charger. It connects through a 9 pin RS232 display port connector and measures 116 mm wide. Victron lists it for its 150 V and 250 V BlueSolar and SmartSolar MPPT range, but for models that have a display port. To fit it, lift the rubber seal covering the socket on the controller face and push the display in.
Our take
The 9 pin RS232 display port connector means this display plugs straight into the controller instead of being wired in. Victron limits it to 150 V and 250 V BlueSolar and SmartSolar MPPT models that have a display port, so check your charger has one.
From our buying guide
BCI defines a battery management system as an electronic system that monitors a battery's condition, performance and health. Some lithium batteries have one built in and some need an external unit.
Check before you buy:
- A voltage reading means little until the battery has rested, and each maker sets its own rest and table.
- An amp-hour figure needs its rate, since BCI says rated capacity is specified at a particular discharge rate, temperature and cutoff voltage.
