The Argodiode 140-3AC is a Victron diode battery isolator that lets one alternator charge 3 batteries at the same time without tying them together. It is rated for 140 A of alternator current and 140 A of charge current. It suits 12V or 24V systems and uses Schottky diodes for a low voltage drop. Battery and alternator connections are M8 bolts.

Our take

With 3 battery outputs and a 140 A alternator rating, this isolator lets one alternator feed three banks without joining them. Running down an accessory battery then does not discharge the starter battery, which is the point of using diodes.

From our buying guide

NMMA says not to mix battery chemistries or types in the same bank, and the makers add their own limits.

Check before you buy:

  • Each maker sets its own alternator rules. Battle Born calls a DC-to-DC charger a simple and safe way to use alternator charging.
  • Battle Born warns that a BMS shutdown leaves the vessel without power, and that one during alternator charging can severely damage the alternator.
  • Ignition protection on a charger or switch is the maker's statement, so read what it says and which standard it names.
