The Victron Centaur Charger 12/80 (3) is a 12 V battery charger rated for 80 A nominal output across 3 charge outputs. It is ignition protected and recommended for battery banks of 320 to 800 Ah. The aluminium enclosure weighs 12 kg and is rated IP20. Output drops to about 80% of nominal when ambient temperature reaches 50°C.
Our take
At 12 kg, the 80 A Centaur needs a solid mounting surface, and its IP20 rating means a dry spot. Output also drops to about 80% of nominal at 50°C, so heat in the compartment reduces what the charger delivers.
From our buying guide
NMMA says charging sources must meet the charging profile the battery maker recommends. A charger's presets are its own maker's, not the battery's, so set it from the battery maker's figures.
Check before you buy:
- It can follow your battery's profile, since not every charger can follow a lithium maker's.
- Its output suits your bank. ProMariner recommends about 10 percent of the batteries' total amp-hour capacity, with one charger output for each battery.
- It suits how you'll use it, since ProMariner says its waterproof chargers are for batteries not in use while charging.
