The Victron BlueSolar PWM-Light 12/24V-30A is a PWM solar charge controller rated for 30 A charge current. It detects 12 V or 24 V battery systems automatically and has a load output with manual control and low voltage disconnect. Maximum solar voltage is 28V / 55V, and the case is rated IP20. Overload protection shuts it down after 60 seconds at 130% load. Charging runs in three stages with no programming, and there is no temperature sensor.

Our take

At 30 A the controller's overload protection shuts it down after 60 seconds at 130% load, so a sustained overload does not run on unchecked. With no temperature sensor and fixed three-stage charging, the charge settings can't be tuned to the battery.

From our buying guide

NMMA says charging sources must meet the charging profile the battery maker recommends. A charger's presets are its own maker's, so set it from the battery maker's figures.

Check before you buy:

  • It can follow your battery's profile, since not every charger can follow a lithium maker's.
  • On a boat subpart I covers, each ungrounded output conductor from a battery needs a manually reset, trip-free circuit breaker or fuse within 72 inches of the battery.
