The BlueSolar MPPT 150/60-MC4 is a Victron solar charge controller that uses maximum power point tracking to move panel energy into the battery. It has a rated charge current of 60 A and accepts panels up to 150 V open circuit. The battery side selects between 12, 24 and 48 V automatically. Nominal panel power is 860 W on a 12 V bank, and the panel inputs are two pairs of MC4 connectors. Maximum efficiency is 98 percent, and VE.Direct carries the data link.
Our take
The 150 V open circuit ceiling limits how many panels can share one series string, and the controller only starts once panel voltage is 5 V above the battery. Plan the string to clear both numbers.
From our buying guide
NMMA says charging sources must meet the charging profile the battery maker recommends. A charger's presets are its own maker's, so set it from the battery maker's figures.
Check before you buy:
- It can follow your battery's profile, since not every charger can follow a lithium maker's.
- On a boat subpart I covers, each ungrounded output conductor from a battery needs a manually reset, trip-free circuit breaker or fuse within 72 inches of the battery.
