The Blue Smart IP22 Charger 24/16 is a Victron mains charger for a 24 V battery bank, with a 120 V input through a NEMA 5-15 plug. It gives 16 A in normal mode using an adaptive 6-stage charge algorithm. Charging goes to one bank only, through its single output. A temperature sensor is optional (Smart Battery Sense). The enclosure is rated IP22.

Our take

With a single output, this 16 A charger serves one 24 V bank, so a boat that also keeps a separate battery bank needs another charger for it. The IP22 enclosure rating is a reason to give it a protected mounting spot.

From our buying guide

NMMA says charging sources must meet the charging profile the battery maker recommends. A charger's presets are its own maker's, not the battery's, so set it from the battery maker's figures.

Check before you buy:

  • It can follow your battery's profile, since not every charger can follow a lithium maker's.
  • Its output suits your bank. ProMariner recommends about 10 percent of the batteries' total amp-hour capacity, with one charger output for each battery.
  • It suits how you'll use it, since ProMariner says its waterproof chargers are for batteries not in use while charging.
