The Victron Blue Smart IP22 Charger 12/30(1) 120V is a 12 V battery charger with a single output and a nominal 30 A charge current in normal mode. A night or low mode cuts that to 15 A, and the charge algorithm is adaptive with 6 stages. Bluetooth is built in, and a Smart Battery Sense temperature sensor is available as an option. The enclosure falls in protection category IP22.

Our take

The IP22 protection category is the figure to check first: it is a low ingress rating, so the charger wants a dry mounting spot rather than somewhere that gets wet. With one 30 A output, it feeds a single battery bank.

From our buying guide

NMMA says charging sources must meet the charging profile the battery maker recommends. A charger's presets are its own maker's, not the battery's, so set it from the battery maker's figures.

Check before you buy:

  • It can follow your battery's profile, since not every charger can follow a lithium maker's.
  • Its output suits your bank. ProMariner recommends about 10 percent of the batteries' total amp-hour capacity, with one charger output for each battery.
  • It suits how you'll use it, since ProMariner says its waterproof chargers are for batteries not in use while charging.
