The Victron BCD 802 is a diode battery combiner for two batteries, rated for 80 A continuous current. Diode combiners let DC power sources run side by side to feed a critical load. It works on 12 V or 24 V systems and connects with M6 bolts. The case weighs 0.8 kg. The range is meant to keep critical equipment powered without a break.
Our take
Two batteries at 80 A continuous is the whole envelope of the BCD 802. It lets two DC sources run in parallel into a critical load, and a third battery cannot be added to it.
From our buying guide
NMMA says not to mix battery chemistries or types in the same bank, and the makers add their own limits.
Check before you buy:
- Each maker sets its own alternator rules. Battle Born calls a DC-to-DC charger a simple and safe way to use alternator charging.
- Battle Born warns that a BMS shutdown leaves the vessel without power, and that one during alternator charging can severely damage the alternator.
- Ignition protection on a charger or switch is the maker's statement, so read what it says and which standard it names.
