The BatteryProtect 48V-100A disconnects non-essential loads from a 48 V battery before it is fully discharged. It runs on an operating voltage of 24 to 64 V and offers a remote on/off terminal. It is rated for 100 A continuous up to 40 C, 60 A continuous up to 60 C, and a 250 A peak for 30 seconds. It is a one-direction device and cannot handle reverse current. Bluetooth is not included.
Our take
The 100 A continuous rating holds only up to 40 C and falls to 60 A at 60 C, so a hot space cuts the usable load. It also passes current one way, so it guards loads or a charger feed but not both at once.
From our buying guide
NMMA says not to mix battery chemistries or types in the same bank, and the makers add their own limits.
Check before you buy:
- Each maker sets its own alternator rules. Battle Born calls a DC-to-DC charger a simple and safe way to use alternator charging.
- Battle Born warns that a BMS shutdown leaves the vessel without power, and that one during alternator charging can severely damage the alternator.
- Ignition protection on a charger or switch is the maker's statement, so read what it says and which standard it names.
