Victron BatteryProtect 12/24V-220A is a low-voltage disconnect that switches non-essential loads off a battery before it is run flat. It suits 12V or 24V systems and is rated 220 A continuous up to 40°C, dropping to 132 A at 60°C, with a 600 A peak for 30 seconds. The electronics are IP67. It is a one-way device, handling either load current or charger current but not both at once, and the load is cut off after a 90 s delay.
Our take
The 220 A continuous rating applies up to 40°C and falls to 132 A at 60°C, so heat decides how much load it really carries. It also handles current one way only, so it serves a load or a charger line, not a circuit doing both.
From our buying guide
NMMA says not to mix battery chemistries or types in the same bank, and the makers add their own limits.
Check before you buy:
- Each maker sets its own alternator rules. Battle Born calls a DC-to-DC charger a simple and safe way to use alternator charging.
- Battle Born warns that a BMS shutdown leaves the vessel without power, and that one during alternator charging can severely damage the alternator.
- Ignition protection on a charger or switch is the maker's statement, so read what it says and which standard it names.
