The Victron Autotransformer 120/240V-100A converts between 120 and 240 VAC using a toroidal transformer. It takes a 120 VAC input and gives a 240 VAC output, and Victron describes the range as usable for stepping up, stepping down and balancing a split phase output. It passes up to 100 A at 240 VAC. Neutral current is rated at 28 A continuous at 40ºC and 32 A for 30 minutes, and the unit weighs 13.5 kg.
Our take
The 28 A continuous neutral rating at 40ºC is the figure to size against, with 32 A allowed for 30 minutes. The 100 A feed-through at 240 VAC is the headline, but the neutral rating bounds how far the two legs can be out of balance.
From our buying guide
On a boat subpart I covers, an electrical component must not ignite fuel vapor around it unless it is isolated from gasoline fuel sources. Ignition protection is the maker's statement.
Check before you buy:
- 33 CFR 183 subpart I applies to boats that have a gasoline engine, except an outboard, so a gasoline generator counts.
- Ignition protection on a charger or switch is the maker's statement, so read what it says and which standard it names.
