The Argofet 200-2 is a battery isolator that lets one alternator charge two batteries at once without tying the batteries together. It is a FET design, so voltage loss is small: under 0,02 Volt at low current, averaging 0,1 Volt at higher currents. It is rated for a maximum charge current of 200 A and a maximum alternator current of 200 A, and it works on 12V or 24V systems. An alternator energize input is provided. The case weighs 1.4 kg.
Our take
Voltage drop under 0,02 Volt at low current, averaging 0,1 Volt at higher currents, means little of the alternator's output is lost on the way to the batteries. With two battery outputs and a 200 A rating, one alternator feed can charge two separate batteries.
From our buying guide
NMMA says not to mix battery chemistries or types in the same bank, and the makers add their own limits.
Check before you buy:
- Each maker sets its own alternator rules. Battle Born calls a DC-to-DC charger a simple and safe way to use alternator charging.
- Battle Born warns that a BMS shutdown leaves the vessel without power, and that one during alternator charging can severely damage the alternator.
- Ignition protection on a charger or switch is the maker's statement, so read what it says and which standard it names.
