The Victron Argodiode 100-3AC is a diode battery isolator that lets one alternator charge three batteries at once without tying them together. Because the batteries stay separate, running down the accessory battery does not drain the starter battery. It is rated for a maximum charge current of 100 A and a maximum alternator current of 100 A, on 12V or 24V systems. Battery connections are M6 bolts, and the enclosure weighs 0.8 kg. Schottky diodes keep the voltage drop low.
Our take
With three battery outputs and a 100 A maximum charge current, this Argodiode splits one alternator's output across three banks, with diodes keeping them apart. A flat accessory battery cannot pull down the starter battery, which is the point on a boat with separate banks.
From our buying guide
NMMA says not to mix battery chemistries or types in the same bank, and the makers add their own limits.
Check before you buy:
- Each maker sets its own alternator rules. Battle Born calls a DC-to-DC charger a simple and safe way to use alternator charging.
- Battle Born warns that a BMS shutdown leaves the vessel without power, and that one during alternator charging can severely damage the alternator.
- Ignition protection on a charger or switch is the maker's statement, so read what it says and which standard it names.
