The Trojan T-125 is a 6V flooded lead-acid battery with a rugged polypropylene case. It is rated at 240 Ah at the 20-hour rate and 195 Ah at the 5-hour rate, and it weighs 66 lb. Watering is done through a HydroLink single-point system, which keeps upkeep simple. Self-discharge is only 5-15% per month, and four terminal types are offered.
Our take
The HydroLink single-point watering system is the practical detail here: a flooded battery needs water, and Trojan describes this setup as making maintenance easy and safe. At 66 lb it is a heavy battery to lift into a locker, so think about access when you place it.
From our buying guide
A starting battery delivers a short burst of strong power, a deep-cycle battery a low, steady level for longer, and a dual-purpose battery a balance of the two. Buy for the job it will do.
Check before you buy:
- You've measured the tray against the maker's real dimensions, since a BCI group gives maximum sizes and some batteries sold as a drop-in run longer.
- You're comparing the same rating. Cold cranking amps are tested at 0°F and cranking amps at 32°F, so the second number is higher.
- If it's lithium, the maker says whether it may start an engine, and NMMA advises contacting your boat's manufacturer or a certified technician before replacing lead-acid.
