This is a Danforth Deluxe anchor kit built around an 8 lb anchor of the traditional Danforth Standard pattern. The shank is high strength steel, the flukes are wide steel plates, and the anchor carries a hot dipped galvanized coating. The kit comes with the anchor, rope, chain and shackles. The rope is 3/8 inch line, 150 ft long, and the chain is 1/4 inch, 4 ft long. The listed boat size is 17 to 24 feet.
Our take
Wide steel flukes and a high strength steel shank on this 8 lb Danforth give it the classic fluke anchor build, with galvanizing for protection. The kit's 4 ft of 1/4 inch chain is short, so check it against your boat before relying on it.
From our buying guide
The Coast Guard does not regulate anchors, so no anchor carries its approval. Each maker sizes on its own assumptions, so a size on one chart does not translate to another.
Check before you buy:
- You know what wind the maker's chart assumes. Rocna's assumes 50 knots and Fortress's 30 knots.
- It fits your bow, since makers say some designs fit bow rollers, bow pulpits or bowsprits better.
- The type suits your bottom. A Coast Guard Auxiliary article says the right type depends a lot on your boat, your anchoring and the make-up of the bottom.
