This is the medium Hull-Saver flat roll-up fender from Taylor Made, sized 22" x 7'-4" and finished in white. Inside is a closed cell polyethylene foam core, wrapped in a UV resistant, tear proof vinyl and polyester covering. Grommets that won't corrode let you rig it along a hull without fuss. The maker says it goes on more easily than 6 single fenders, and it can double as a cushion when stowed or be used for rafting and tie ups.
Our take
At 7'-4" long, this one roll-up body stands in for several round fenders, and the maker claims it attaches more easily than 6 single ones. For a raft-up, that is one fender to rig between hulls instead of a string of them.
From our buying guide
Polyform says to use at least three fenders when docking, and Taylor Made's rule of thumb is one for every 10 ft of waterline per side. Both makers hedge their size charts, so allow for your boat and where you moor.
Check before you buy:
- The size is on that maker's own chart for your boat's length.
- Your fender line suits the eye, since Polyform says too small a line can cut through a vinyl eye.
- You'll inflate it to the maker's figure, since two makers say over-inflating voids the warranty.
