Where to buy
The Sierra 18-7776 is a Johnson/Evinrude fuel water separator kit. It is built around a stainless steel bracket, called the head, with 3/8 inch ports, and it uses the tall filter. The kit includes two pipe plugs and a filter, so it is more than the bare bracket. Sierra lists the same head in other port sizes and metals, so match the 3/8 inch ports to your fuel hose.
Our take
The 3/8 inch ports on this stainless steel Sierra head set the hose size you need, and the kit adds a tall filter and two pipe plugs. That makes it a complete swap for a Johnson/Evinrude separator head.
From our buying guide
Parker lists Racor's marine Turbine Series for diesel and biodiesel engines, and Racor says gasoline filters in an enclosed location should use a metal bowl. A micron rating means little without its efficiency.
Check before you buy:
- The efficiency is stated with the micron size. Racor labels its finest element 2 micron and rates it at 98% at 4 microns.
- You know your engine's change interval, since intervals are per model.
- You can fit it on the suction side of the fuel transfer pump, where Racor says to install its 900MA and 1000MA, since pumps emulsify water.
