The Rule RuleMate III RM800B-24 is an automatic submersible bilge pump rated at 800 gph on 24 V DC. Solid-state water sensors replace a separate float switch, and the pump shuts off at a water depth of 5/8 inch. It draws 2.1 A, with a recommended fuse of 4 A, and has a maximum head of 12 ft. Flow is 942 gph at 0 ft of head and falls to 416 gph at 6.7 ft.

Our take

Rated at 800 gph, this pump moves 416 gph at 6.7 ft of head, so how high you lift the water decides what it delivers. The solid-state sensors remove the float switch, and it draws 2.1 A on 24 V.

From our buying guide

Rule and Johnson both say their bilge pumps are not intended for damage control. Flow falls as the discharge head rises, and the length of the hose, its bends and any check valve reduce it further.

Check before you buy:

  • The maker's own table shows the flow at head, since how much a pump loses depends on the model.
  • An automatic pump also has a manual switch, which ABYC's voluntary 2005 standard calls for.
  • You'll fuse it to the maker's figure.
