This is the 24V version of Rule's submersible bilge pump, rated at 800 GPH. It has a built-in backflow preventer, so water pushed up the hose does not drain back into the bilge. Rule says the 24V model now delivers its advertised flow at 24 volts rather than 27.2 volts. It is not automatic: you run it from a panel switch or a Rule float switch. A small hidden vent releases trapped air from the housing, and a thermal cell inside guards the pump against overheating.
Our take
The 800 GPH rating is reached at 24 volts rather than the 27.2 volts the earlier design needed, so the rating no longer depends on a higher supply voltage. Being non-automatic, it still needs a panel switch or float switch to start it.
From our buying guide
Rule and Johnson both say their bilge pumps are not intended for damage control. Flow falls as the discharge head rises, and the length of the hose, its bends and any check valve reduce it further.
Check before you buy:
- The maker's own table shows the flow at head, since how much a pump loses depends on the model.
- An automatic pump also has a manual switch, which ABYC's voluntary 2005 standard calls for.
- You'll fuse it to the maker's figure.
