Specifications

Rated flow
500 gal/h
Voltage
24V

This is the 24V version of Rule's submersible bilge pump, rated at 500 GPH. It has a 3/4 inch outlet with a built-in backflow preventer, so water pushed up the hose does not drain back into the bilge. It is not automatic: you run it from a panel switch or a Rule float switch. Rule added a small hidden vent to release trapped air from the housing, and a thermal cell inside guards the pump against overheating.

Our take

The built-in backflow preventer on the 3/4 inch outlet means water lifted out of the bilge stays out when the pump stops, rather than draining back down the hose. Because it is non-automatic, you need to wire in a float or panel switch to run it.

From our buying guide

Rule and Johnson both say their bilge pumps are not intended for damage control. Flow falls as the discharge head rises, and the length of the hose, its bends and any check valve reduce it further.

Check before you buy:

  • The maker's own table shows the flow at head, since how much a pump loses depends on the model.
  • An automatic pump also has a manual switch, which ABYC's voluntary 2005 standard calls for.
  • You'll fuse it to the maker's figure.
