The Rule 2000 #10 is a submersible 12 volt bilge pump rated at 2000 gallons per hour. It has a 1-1/8 inch (28.6 mm) discharge outlet and is non-automatic. The motor will not burn out if run dry, and the pump has anti-airlock protection and a snap lock strainer that is easy to clean. Operation is silent and vibrationless.

Our take

The motor is stated not to burn out when run dry, so a bilge that empties while the 2000 GPH pump is still running should not damage it. The pump is non-automatic, so nothing in it starts it for you when water rises.

From our buying guide

Rule and Johnson both say their bilge pumps are not intended for damage control. Flow falls as the discharge head rises, and the length of the hose, its bends and any check valve reduce it further.

Check before you buy:

  • The maker's own table shows the flow at head, since how much a pump loses depends on the model.
  • An automatic pump also has a manual switch, which ABYC's voluntary 2005 standard calls for.
  • You'll fuse it to the maker's figure.
