The Rocna MK II in 44 lb is a scoop-pattern anchor in stainless steel, with a roll-foil hoop that helps it end up the right way round as it lands. A concave fluke and a weighted chisel tip are meant to take hold in soft bottoms and also cut into hard or weedy ones. The shank is high tensile steel with an I+V profile for stiffness against bending. The maker covers each anchor with a lifetime warranty for manufacturing defects, breakage and bending.
Our take
The roll-foil hoop is designed to help the anchor right itself if it lands upside down, so you are not relying on luck for the first bite. The lifetime warranty also covers bending and breakage, not just defects, which is a plain promise on a stainless 44 lb anchor.
From our buying guide
The Coast Guard does not regulate anchors, so no anchor carries its approval. Each maker sizes on its own assumptions, so a size on one chart does not translate to another.
Check before you buy:
- You know what wind the maker's chart assumes. Rocna's assumes 50 knots and Fortress's 30 knots.
- It fits your bow, since makers say some designs fit bow rollers, bow pulpits or bowsprits better.
- The type suits your bottom. A Coast Guard Auxiliary article says the right type depends a lot on your boat, your anchoring and the make-up of the bottom.
