The Rocna Fisherman is a galvanized anchor in the 6 kg (13 lb) size, made for fishermen and divers. The maker designed it for people who face a higher chance of snagging the anchor on something on the bottom. It is pitched at smaller boats that have to re-anchor often, and at getting the anchor back up more easily when conditions are hard. The maker points it at short outings, not long passages.
Our take
The Fisherman is built around the snag problem: the maker names fishermen and divers who risk fouling the anchor on an undersea obstacle, and stresses easier retrieval. At 6 kg (13 lb) and aimed at day trips and small boats, it is not pitched for extended cruising.
From our buying guide
The Coast Guard does not regulate anchors, so no anchor carries its approval. Each maker sizes on its own assumptions, so a size on one chart does not translate to another.
Check before you buy:
- You know what wind the maker's chart assumes. Rocna's assumes 50 knots and Fortress's 30 knots.
- It fits your bow, since makers say some designs fit bow rollers, bow pulpits or bowsprits better.
- The type suits your bottom. A Coast Guard Auxiliary article says the right type depends a lot on your boat, your anchoring and the make-up of the bottom.
