This is the RitchieSport bracket-mount compass in white, with a 2 in direct-reading dial. A reversible bracket gives over 300 degrees of mounting angle starting from overhead, and two-sided self-adhesive pads are included. The dial has internal green night lighting. The movement is a hardened steel pivot with a sapphire jewel, and the case is a high temperature composite.

Ritchie says a magnetic compass needs no electrical power to work, and that a GPS gives course over ground, not heading. Magnets, ferrous metals and current-carrying devices near it can cause deviation, so the spot matters too.
