The Raymarine i40 Depth is a 3.7 in rectangular depth display supplied with a transom mount transducer. It works at 200 kHz and reads to a maximum depth of 400 ft. The display runs from 12V DC power and draws less than 0.4 watts. It links to other Raymarine instruments, autopilots and MFDs over SeaTalk, and the depth readout can be offset to allow for projections such as props or rudders.

Our take

Its 400 ft maximum depth at 200 kHz sets the working range of this transom transducer kit, and the depth offset controls let you calibrate the readout to allow for props, rudders or skegs rather than just the transducer position.

From our buying guide

Raymarine's general guidance is 200 kHz for water under about 60 m (200 ft) and 50 kHz for deep water. In-hull transducers avoid a hole, but lose performance and need a solid fiberglass bottom.

Check before you buy:

  • The housing suits your hull. Airmar and Raymarine rule out plastic on a wood hull and bronze on a metal one.
  • It connects to your display, since an analog transducer needs an interface.
  • A through-hull will be fitted to the maker's guide. Garmin says its own should be installed by a qualified marine installer.
