The Raymarine DST800 is a nylon thru-hull transducer that measures depth, boat speed and water temperature from a single fitting. It is listed for use with ST60, ITC-5 and i50 instruments and is supplied with spade connectors. It comes with a 45 foot cable. It is not a CHIRP transducer, so expect conventional sounding rather than swept-frequency imaging. Mounting is thru-hull only, which means a hole through the hull below the waterline.
Our take
The 45 foot cable is a useful run for routing from a through-hull fitting to instruments some way aft or at the helm. Bundling depth, speed and temperature into one nylon fitting saves cutting extra holes, but without CHIRP it is a basic sounder.
From our buying guide
Raymarine's general guidance is 200 kHz for water under about 60 m (200 ft) and 50 kHz for deep water. In-hull transducers avoid a hole, but lose performance and need a solid fiberglass bottom.
Check before you buy:
- The housing suits your hull. Airmar and Raymarine rule out plastic on a wood hull and bronze on a metal one.
- It connects to your display, since an analog transducer needs an interface.
- A through-hull will be fitted to the maker's guide. Garmin says its own should be installed by a qualified marine installer.
