The Raymarine Axiom+ 12 RealVision 3D is a 12-inch chartplotter with sonar built in and North American LightHouse charts loaded. The IPS screen runs at 1280 x 800 and reaches up to 1,800 nits, and its glass is coated to shed water and smudges. Sonar comes from a built-in 600W unit at 50 kHz and 200 kHz, with CHIRP, DownVision, SideVision and RealVision 3D channels. This version leaves out the RV-100 transducer. It networks over RayNet Ethernet and NMEA 2000 and has built-in Wi-Fi for a phone or tablet.
Our take
The 1,800 nit screen is the figure to look at for a helm in open sun, since brightness is what keeps charts and sonar readable there. This version comes without the RV-100 transducer, so check what is already on your hull before counting on the RealVision 3D views.
From our buying guide
What's in the box depends on the part number: Raymarine sells one screen display only, with charts, with a transducer, or with both. Not every chart card fits every plotter, either.
Check before you buy:
- The part number includes the charts and transducer you expect.
- It reads the charts you want, and you know how long their updates last, since many come with a one-year subscription.
- A touchscreen suits your helm, since Raymarine warns that prolonged rain or water wash can cause false touches.
