The DT800 Smart Transducer reads depth and water temperature and sends both over SeaTalkng, so it plugs straight into a Raymarine network and feeds compatible instruments and chartplotters. It runs at 235 kHz with 100 W of output and reads from 1.6 ft down to 600 ft. The element is a 0 degree type for flat mounting, the housing is 2 inch plastic that can go in fiberglass or metal hulls, and a 20 foot cable with a SeaTalk NG connector comes with it. Calibration is done from an Axiom chartplotter or i70s instrument.
Our take
The 235 kHz frequency is picked so this transducer doesn't interfere with other depth sounders or fishfinders aboard, which matters if a second sounder is already fitted. Calibration is done from an Axiom chartplotter or i70s instrument, so one of those has to be on the network.
From our buying guide
Raymarine's general guidance is 200 kHz for water under about 60 m (200 ft) and 50 kHz for deep water. In-hull transducers avoid a hole, but lose performance and need a solid fiberglass bottom.
Check before you buy:
- The housing suits your hull. Airmar and Raymarine rule out plastic on a wood hull and bronze on a metal one.
- It connects to your display, since an analog transducer needs an interface.
- A through-hull will be fitted to the maker's guide. Garmin says its own should be installed by a qualified marine installer.
