The SeaEra is an electric macerating marine toilet from Raritan, with a white porcelain bowl and an integral raw water intake pump so it flushes with seawater. A push-button switch runs the flush. The bowl rotates 90 degrees for mounting in tight spots, and the base measures 6-5/8 inches wide by 13-3/8 long. The discharge fitting takes 1-1/2 inch or 1 inch hose, and a stainless steel macerating blade does the cutting. It carries a two year warranty.
Our take
Intake and discharge are kept separate, so dirty water cannot enter the bowl if the seal fails. With a raw water intake pump built in, that separation keeps the flush supply and the waste path apart. The full size joker valve is meant to reduce clogs.
From our buying guide
A vessel with installed toilet facilities must have an operable marine sanitation device that is labeled or certified. EPA says untreated sewage may not be discharged within three miles from shore, and in a No Discharge Zone treated sewage may not be either.
Check before you buy:
- You have what it needs, since heads may call for 12-volt power, through-hulls and seacocks, or a separate vacuum source.
- It fits the compartment, since Jabsco says an electric toilet needs more space at the rear than a manual one.
- If it could sit below the waterline, you'll fit a vented loop as the maker specifies, since Jabsco warns the vent, not the loop, is what stops the siphon.
