The Raritan SeaEra is a 12V electric marine toilet with a built-in macerator pump and a white porcelain marine size bowl. This version flushes with fresh water through a solenoid valve connected to the boat's pressurized freshwater system. The bowl can be turned 90 degrees to fit a tight space, and the base measures 6-5/8 inches wide by 11-1/8 inches deep, or 13-3/8 inches with the integral pump. The discharge fitting takes either 1-1/2 inch or 1 inch lines without an adapter, and a push-button flush switch is included.

Our take

A bowl that rotates 90 degrees is the useful detail on this SeaEra, since it lets the toilet fit into a confined space, and the base is only 6-5/8 inches wide. The freshwater solenoid version ties into the pressurized freshwater system, which Raritan says gives a quieter flush and fewer odors.

From our buying guide

A vessel with installed toilet facilities must have an operable marine sanitation device that is labeled or certified. EPA says untreated sewage may not be discharged within three miles from shore, and in a No Discharge Zone treated sewage may not be either.

Check before you buy:

  • You have what it needs, since heads may call for 12-volt power, through-hulls and seacocks, or a separate vacuum source.
  • It fits the compartment, since Jabsco says an electric toilet needs more space at the rear than a manual one.
  • If it could sit below the waterline, you'll fit a vented loop as the maker specifies, since Jabsco warns the vent, not the loop, is what stops the siphon.
