The Raritan Marine Elegance is a 12V toilet in white with an angled back. It runs on fresh water and is operated with a remote switch. It uses Vortex-VAC technology, which builds the vacuum inside the bowl. Because the vacuum forms in the bowl, the below-deck components are left out, along with foot pedals and other mechanical parts. Raritan says that makes the system easier to install and maintain, and the turbo flush works with the remote switch to cut water use.
Our take
Vortex-VAC makes the vacuum inside the bowl, so there are no separate vacuum pumps or tanks under the deck. Fewer separate parts is Raritan's case for easier installation and upkeep on this 12V fresh water toilet.
From our buying guide
A vessel with installed toilet facilities must have an operable marine sanitation device that is labeled or certified. EPA says untreated sewage may not be discharged within three miles from shore, and in a No Discharge Zone treated sewage may not be either.
Check before you buy:
- You have what it needs, since heads may call for 12-volt power, through-hulls and seacocks, or a separate vacuum source.
- It fits the compartment, since Jabsco says an electric toilet needs more space at the rear than a manual one.
- If it could sit below the waterline, you'll fit a vented loop as the maker specifies, since Jabsco warns the vent, not the loop, is what stops the siphon.
