The Racor 500MA30 is a 500 MA series turbine filter that has a heat shield, fitted with the 2010PM-OR element at 30 micron and a flow rating of 60 gph. As fuel enters, the centrifuge spins off large solids and water, which are heavier than fuel. Small water droplets then bead up on the conical baffle and the cartridge filter. The Aquabloc II cartridge is waterproof, and an in-filter heater is offered as an option for cold starts.
Our take
The Aquabloc II cartridge is waterproof and keeps its effectiveness longer than water absorbing filters, which counts for a filter whose job includes water. The 500MA30 pairs it with a 30 micron element and 60 gph flow, so compare that flow with your engine's demand.
From our buying guide
Parker lists Racor's marine Turbine Series for diesel and biodiesel engines, and Racor says gasoline filters in an enclosed location should use a metal bowl. A micron rating means little without its efficiency.
Check before you buy:
- The efficiency is stated with the micron size. Racor labels its finest element 2 micron and rates it at 98% at 4 microns.
- You know your engine's change interval, since intervals are per model.
- You can fit it on the suction side of the fuel transfer pump, where Racor says to install its 900MA and 1000MA, since pumps emulsify water.
