The ProMariner 53242 is the ProTournament240 Elite Series3, a 24-amp waterproof marine charger with two 12V banks. It runs from 120 VAC at 7.5 A and charges flooded, AGM, Gel or approved LiFePO4 batteries through a 5-stage process. With Distribute-On-Demand charging, the 24 amps total can shift between banks, with up to 18 amps going to one. The case measures 13.4 x 7.1 x 3.2 inches.
Our take
Distribute-On-Demand lets the 53242 send up to 18 of its 24 amps down one bank, so a hungrier battery gets more than an even split between banks. ProMariner recommends it for Group 24-31 batteries and says it is not for 4D or 8D sizes.
From our buying guide
NMMA says charging sources must meet the charging profile the battery maker recommends. A charger's presets are its own maker's, not the battery's, so set it from the battery maker's figures.
Check before you buy:
- It can follow your battery's profile, since not every charger can follow a lithium maker's.
- Its output suits your bank. ProMariner recommends about 10 percent of the batteries' total amp-hour capacity, with one charger output for each battery.
- It suits how you'll use it, since ProMariner says its waterproof chargers are for batteries not in use while charging.
