The ProNautic P 2420P is a digital battery charger with a 24 VDC output rated at 20A. It takes any AC supply from 100-240 VAC, and it works through twelve charge profiles with 4-stage charging, selectable from the front panel. Output is shared between the battery banks as each one needs it. The charger includes a remote temperature probe, with temperature compensation and fan control built in. It is ignition protected and current limiting, and after 21 days in maintain mode it de-sulfates the batteries automatically.
Our take
Twenty amps at 24 VDC is the output, so this charger is meant for a 24 volt system, not a 12 volt one. The remote temperature probe in the box lets it compensate for battery temperature, and the unit is ignition protected.
From our buying guide
NMMA says charging sources must meet the charging profile the battery maker recommends. A charger's presets are its own maker's, not the battery's, so set it from the battery maker's figures.
Check before you buy:
- It can follow your battery's profile, since not every charger can follow a lithium maker's.
- Its output suits your bank. ProMariner recommends about 10 percent of the batteries' total amp-hour capacity, with one charger output for each battery.
- It suits how you'll use it, since ProMariner says its waterproof chargers are for batteries not in use while charging.
