The ProNautic P 1230P is a 30 amp, 12 volt onboard charger from ProMariner. Its input auto-ranges across 100 to 240 VAC, and it offers twelve user-selectable charge profiles with four-stage charging. A temperature probe is supplied so charging can be compensated automatically, and the fan is controlled automatically too. Output is shared among the battery banks as each needs it. After 21 days in maintain mode it de-sulfates the batteries. It is ignition protected and current limiting.
Our take
The 30 amp output is shared across the battery banks as each one needs it, and a remote temperature probe is supplied so charging can follow battery temperature. It is also ignition protected and current limiting, which is the safety detail to check for a charger near an engine.
From our buying guide
NMMA says charging sources must meet the charging profile the battery maker recommends. A charger's presets are its own maker's, not the battery's, so set it from the battery maker's figures.
Check before you buy:
- It can follow your battery's profile, since not every charger can follow a lithium maker's.
- Its output suits your bank. ProMariner recommends about 10 percent of the batteries' total amp-hour capacity, with one charger output for each battery.
- It suits how you'll use it, since ProMariner says its waterproof chargers are for batteries not in use while charging.
