The Polyform G-5 is a cylindrical double eye fender in cobalt blue, measuring 8 13/16 in across and 26 13/16 in long. The eye diameter is 3/4 in. The maker gives it molded-in ribs and an even wall thickness for strength. It is designed for trailered boats and permanent protected moorings, and the maker lists a boat size range of 24.9 to 35.1 ft.
Our take
The molded-in ribs on this 26 13/16 in fender are there for abrasion resistance, and the maker designs it for trailered boats and protected moorings. That points to sheltered berths, not exposed ones.
From our buying guide
Polyform says to use at least three fenders when docking, and Taylor Made's rule of thumb is one for every 10 ft of waterline per side. Both makers hedge their size charts, so allow for your boat and where you moor.
Check before you buy:
- The size is on that maker's own chart for your boat's length.
- Your fender line suits the eye, since Polyform says too small a line can cut through a vinyl eye.
- You'll inflate it to the maker's figure, since two makers say over-inflating voids the warranty.
