The Perko Fig. 170 is a starboard navigation light with a white housing, certified for sail or power vessels under 20 meters in length. Visibility is rated at 2 to 3 nautical miles. The listed vessel size is under 65 ft (20 m), so check your boat's length against that before fitting it. The light mounts on a vertical surface, and a 12 volt bulb is included with it.
Our take
A 2 to 3 nautical mile visibility rating and a 65 ft (20 m) vessel limit tell you this starboard light is sized for smaller boats. Because it mounts on a vertical surface, you need an upright face to fit it to, and the 12 volt bulb is already supplied.
From our buying guide
The lights a boat must show depend on its length and how it's being driven. A sailboat under power is a power-driven vessel and shows power-driven lights.
Check before you buy:
- The label gives its visibility in nautical miles, and that range meets the minimum for your boat's length.
- The maker rates it for boats of your length.
- A replacement LED is certified with the fixture it's going into, since the Coast Guard warns that replacement lighting may not meet the rules.
