This is a pair of Perko Fig. 1264 side lights, one red and one green, in a classic powerboat style. The housings are chromed zinc alloy with a black vinyl gasket, and a 12 volt bulb is included. They are rated for vessels under 39 ft (12 m) with 1 nautical mile visibility. They are certified only as original equipment replacements, not for new construction.
Our take
The chrome-plated zinc alloy housing is the catch with this pair, because the maker does not recommend it for saltwater use. It is also certified only as a replacement for original equipment, so it will not do for a new build.
From our buying guide
The lights a boat must show depend on its length and how it's being driven. A sailboat under power is a power-driven vessel and shows power-driven lights.
Check before you buy:
- The label gives its visibility in nautical miles, and that range meets the minimum for your boat's length.
- The maker rates it for boats of your length.
- A replacement LED is certified with the fixture it's going into, since the Coast Guard warns that replacement lighting may not meet the rules.
