Perko's Fig. 1183 is a combination masthead and all-round light built as a single fixture. A three-wire arrangement lets it run as a masthead light when underway under power, and as an all-round light when you are anchored. Wired properly, the rear light cannot be switched on by itself. It is visible for 3 nautical miles, is intended for vessels up to 65 ft (20 m), and is USCG certified. It comes with 12 volt bulbs, and 24 volt bulbs are available.
Our take
The three-wire setup lets one fixture act as a masthead light under power and an all-round light at anchor, so a single fitting does both jobs. The rear light cannot be left on by itself by mistake, and 3 nautical miles is the visibility you get.
