1-2-All selector

The Perko dual battery selector switch lets you add an extra battery for accessories, and it is made for two or more batteries. You can pick one battery or run both together. The design is make before break and ignition protected. It has a removable actuator key, and its oval body mounts in a round hole. It can also act as an emergency main disconnect if an electrical problem shows up.

Our take

Make-before-break contacts mean the circuit is not opened while you move between batteries, and the switch is also ignition protected. With a removable actuator key and a role as an emergency main disconnect, it covers selecting, combining and cutting power in one unit.

From our buying guide

Perko says its selector switches can be switched between 1, ALL and 2 with the engine running, and that they let you put batteries in parallel for emergency starting. Battle Born advises against that connection with its LiFePO4 batteries.

Check before you buy:

  • Its continuous and 5-minute ratings suit your system. Perko rates its medium-duty 8501 at 250 A continuous.
  • It has an alternator field disconnect if you need one. Perko says its AFD models protect non-unitized alternators if the switch is turned OFF with the engine running.
  • If it's going in a gasoline engine space, the maker lists it as ignition protected.
