The Perko 9621DPC is a single battery disconnect switch in a red polycarbonate body with nickel plated terminals. It isolates the battery when the boat is not in use and can double as an emergency main disconnect. It is rated at 140 A continuous, 200 A for 5 minutes and 250 A for a 30 second start, and works on 6-50 V DC systems. A removable actuator key adds security, and the oval body mounts in a round hole.

Our take

The 140 A continuous rating, with 250 A allowed for 30 seconds during a start, is the figure to compare against your engine's cranking and running load. The removable actuator key means the switch can be locked out by taking the key away.

From our buying guide

Perko says its selector switches can be switched between 1, ALL and 2 with the engine running, and that they let you put batteries in parallel for emergency starting. Battle Born advises against that connection with its LiFePO4 batteries.

Check before you buy:

  • Its continuous and 5-minute ratings suit your system. Perko rates its medium-duty 8501 at 250 A continuous.
  • It has an alternator field disconnect if you need one. Perko says its AFD models protect non-unitized alternators if the switch is turned OFF with the engine running.
  • If it's going in a gasoline engine space, the maker lists it as ignition protected.
